Sonika has been a dedicated genetic counselor in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for the past 13 years. She holds a Bachelor’s in Biomedical Science and a Master’s in Genetic Counseling from the University of Melbourne, Australia, where she trained as a genetic counselor.
As the first genetic counselor in the UAE, Sonika played a pivotal role in establishing best practice guidelines and supporting health authorities in setting the requirements for licensing genetic counselors. Her passion for her work drives her efforts to raise awareness about the application and integration of genetic testing in medicine and the importance of genetic counseling in disease prevention.
Sonika has shared her expertise by presenting at numerous events and local conferences on genetic counseling and genetic disorders. She actively contributes to the field through media publications and radio appearances, educating the public about genetics and its benefits.
At present, Sonika is a Genetic Counsellor at Biogenix, M42, where she provides clinical support for genomic and multi-omics testing. She works closely with physicians to guide appropriate test selection, interpret laboratory findings within a clinical context, and support the effective communication of results to patients. Her role bridges the laboratory and clinical interface, promoting the integration of genomic insights into everyday medical practice and advancing preventive, precision-based healthcare.
